What are you working on now, and what were you doing before this?
สวัสดีครับผม พล ดูนาฬิกานะครับ ตอนนี้เป็นหุ้นส่วนที่ร้าน Maru Maru Pizza รับหน้าที่เป็นเซอร์วิสเมเนเจอร์ที่ร้านคอยดูแลลูกค้าที่จองมาและวอร์คอินหน้าร้านต่างๆ ครับ
อาชีพที่ทำก่อนหน้านี้เป็นช่างซ่อมนาฬิกาและซื้อขายนาฬิกาครับโดยเฉพาะนาฬิกาเก่าวินเทจเป็นส่วนมาก
Hello, I’m Phon Dunaliga. Now I’m a partner at Maru Maru Pizza, where I take care of service operations, managing both reservations and walk-in guests at the restaurant.
Before this, I worked as a watch repairer and dealer, specializing mostly in vintage timepieces.
What drew you into the restaurant business, especially pizza?
คือความจริงแล้วเรื่องของนาฬิกา ผมว่ามันคงเกือบจะเหมือนถึงวาระแล้ว เพราะด้วยความที่ว่าเราทำมานานแล้ว ผมว่ามีเฉียด 15 ปีนะ มันคงจะถึงจุดอิ่มตัวของผม มันไม่มีอะไรที่ผมรู้สึกตื่นเต้นกับมันขนาดนั้นแล้ว แล้วเราเองก็เป็นคนที่ชอบหาแพชชั่นใหม่ตลอด ซึ่งพวกการทำอะไรในครัวก็เป็นอีกความท้าทายนึงที่ผมชอบ
To be honest, I feel like my journey with watches has almost run its course. I’ve been in it for nearly 15 years, and I think I’ve reached a point of saturation. There’s nothing about it that excites me the way it used to. I’m also someone who’s always looking for new passions, and working in the kitchen has become one of those challenges I genuinely enjoy.
Would you say this is a passion project or more of a business opportunity?

Working in the restaurant, seeing people, managing different things, it feels like it has reignited something in me. That’s why I decided to pursue this business. You could say it is a new spark in my life right now. It is more about passion than anything else.
From vintage watches to pizza, How has it evolved?
ถ้าในมุมมองที่มันเกี่ยวเนื่องกัน อาจจะต้องมองในมุมมองของธุรกิจ เราอาจจะมีลูกค้า เพื่อน พี่น้อง ที่เคยซัพพอร์ตเรา ซึ่งก็ตามมาสนับสนุนกันที่ร้านพิซซ่ากันต่อ นาฬิกามันพาผมไปแทบจะทุกที่บนโลกแล้วนะ ที่บางที่ผมไม่คิดว่าจะได้ไปหรือที่เรานึกไม่ถึง มันอาจจะเป็นสะพานที่ทำให้ตัวผม ความคิดผม มาสู่ตรงนี้
If we look at it from a connected perspective, it might be through the lens of business. We have customers, friends, and close contacts who used to support me in the watch business and now continue to support us at the pizza restaurant. Watches have taken me to almost every corner of the world, including places I never thought I would go. In a way, they have been a bridge that brought me and my way of thinking to where I am now.
What makes Maru Maru different from other pizza spots out there?
ผมว่าสิ่งที่ทำให้ Maru Maru Pizza แตกต่าง เกิดจากหลายๆ สิ่งหลายๆ อย่างมารวมกัน ยกตัวอย่างเช่น เรื่องโลเคชั่นร้าน ทุกวันผมต้องรับโทรศัพท์เพราะลูกค้าไม่แน่ใจว่าเข้ามาถูกซอยรึเปล่า มันมีโกดังร้าง นี่ใช่รึเปล่า (หัวเราะ) ผมว่ามันเป็นหลายๆ ส่วนประกอบ อย่างพี่เฉย กับ พี่ฮิม ซึ่งเป็นคนที่ริเริ่มทำร้านนี้ขึ้นมาจะลงมือมาทำกันเองด้วยตลอดร่วมถึงหุ้นส่วนทุกคนๆ ทำให้มันสร้างบรรยากาศความเป็นกันเอง เหมือนเราได้อยู่กับเพื่อน ไม่แน่ใจเหมือนกันว่าทำไมมันให้ผลลัพธ์ออกมาได้ดีขนาดนี้ โฆษณาไม่ได้ยิงสักอย่าง แต่ลูกค้ามาค้นพบเองว่าร้านเราเป็นแบบนี้ รสชาติเป็นแบบนี้ แต่แน่นอนว่าต้องดี (ยิ้ม)
I think what makes Maru Maru Pizza different comes from a mix of many things. For example, the location. Every day I get phone calls from customers who are unsure if they’re in the right alley. There’s an abandoned warehouse nearby and they ask, “Is this the place?” (laughs) I believe it’s a combination of elements. P’Choei and P’Him, who started the restaurant, are very hands-on and involved in everything, as are all the partners. That creates a warm and friendly atmosphere, like being among friends. I’m not exactly sure why it has worked out so well. We haven’t run any ads at all, yet customers find us on their own and discover what our place is like, what our flavors are like. But of course, it has to be good (smiles).
In your view, how do occupation and passion work together or against each other?
เราอาจจะได้ยินคำนี้มานานนะ ว่าถ้าเรามีความสุขกับงานที่ทำมันจะรู้สึกเหมือนเราไม่ได้ทำงาน ซึ่งมันยากมากที่คนเราจะพบเจอคำนี้แล้วใช้ได้กับตัวเองจริงๆ แต่ในมุมมองของผมเองการเริ่มจากแพชชั่นของเรามันจะทำให้เกิดสิ่งนี้ได้ง่ายกว่า แล้วสำหรับตัวผมเองมันก็เกิดขึ้นจริง ผมมีความสุขที่ได้มาที่ร้าน ได้เจอเพื่อนๆ พี่ๆ ผมสนุกที่ได้เฝ้ารอว่าวันถัดไปจะได้เจอ ได้ทำอะไร
We have probably all heard the saying that if you love what you do, it will not feel like work. But in reality, it is not easy to find something where that truly applies to yourself. From my perspective, though, when you start with your own passion, it makes that feeling much easier to reach. And for me, it really has happened. I am genuinely happy coming to the restaurant, seeing friends and colleagues. I enjoy looking forward to the next day, wondering what I will get to do and who I will get to meet.
Have you ever had a turning point in your life - something that shaped who you are today?
ความจริงผมเป็นคนที่ชอบอ่าน พวกคำคม พวกแรงบันดาลใจต่างๆ มันมีประโยคนึงที่ผมชอบมากและเป็นสิ่งที่ยึดใช้มาตลอด ถ้าไปเปิดในอินเทอร์เน็ตมันจะขึ้นว่ามาจาก บรูซ ลี แต่ผมไม่รู้ว่า บรูซ ลีได้กล่าวไว้จริงๆ รึเปล่านะ (หัวเราะ) เขาบอกว่าเราไม่ควรจะดูถูกตัวเองไม่ว่าจะพูดเล่นหรือตำหนิตัวเอง ร่างกายมันอาจจะไม่ได้รับรู้แต่จิตสำนึกเราได้คิดไปแล้ว เพราะคำพูดมันเป็นพลังงานพอเราพูดอย่างไรสมองมันก็จะทำงานอย่างนั้น เพราะฉะนั้นคำพูดหรือความคิดกับตัวเองที่ดีเนี่ย มันสามารถเปลี่ยนชีวิตได้ ทำให้ชีวิตเราดีขึ้นได้ เกิดขึ้นจริงได้
Honestly, I’m someone who enjoys reading quotes and things that inspire. There’s one line I really like and have always held onto. If you search online, it says it’s by Bruce Lee—though I’m not sure if he actually said it or not (laughs). It goes something like, we should never put ourselves down, whether joking or criticizing ourselves. The body might not register it, but the subconscious mind already has. Words are energy, and the way we speak affects how our brain functions. So speaking or thinking positively about yourself can truly change your life. It can genuinely make things better.
“Don't speak negatively about yourself, even as a joke. Your body doesn't know the difference. Words are energy and they cast spells, that's why it's called spelling. Change the way you speak about yourself, and you can change your life.”

What is something that has always stayed with you , something you’ve believed in deeply no matter how your roles or paths have changed?
นอกจากคำคมที่บอกไปก่อนหน้านี้แล้ว ผมว่ามันมีสิ่งนึงที่ผมถูกปลูกฝังมาทั้งชีวิตและอยู่กับผมมาตังแต่เยาว์วัย คือคำว่าวินัย ไม่มีอะไรชนะคำว่าวินัย ไม่ว่าจะกับตัวเองหรืออะไรก็แล้วแต่ คือวินัยมันเป็นรากฐานของทุกอย่าง ทุกอย่างในชีวิตมันไม่มีอะไรที่ทำแค่ครั้งสองครั้งแล้วเห็นผล ทุกอย่างต้องใช้ความอดทนซึ่งก็นั่นเป็นรากฐานของคำว่าวินัย
Aside from the quote I mentioned earlier, there is something that has been instilled in me throughout my life since I was young, and that is the word 'discipline'. Nothing beats discipline, whether it is with yourself or anything else. Discipline is the foundation of everything. In life, nothing gives results after just one or two attempts. Everything takes patience, and that patience is rooted in discipline.
Nowadays, where do you draw inspiration or lessons from people, books, or real-life experiences?
ผมว่าก็หลายๆ อย่างนะผสมกันไป แต่ส่วนมากจะเป็นจากประสบการณ์ที่ผมเจอมากกว่า เอาจริงๆ ผมก็ไม่ได้อ่านหนังสือเยอะ จะเก็บเกี่ยวประสบการณ์จากการพบเจอผู้คนในชีวิตจริงมากกว่า เราเห็นคนนั้นแล้วชอบรู้สึกว่าเขาเจ๋งดีว่ะ มีแนวคิดแบบนี้คาแรคเตอร์แบบนี้ ผมว่ามันน่าจะมาจากการสังเกต การได้คุยกับคนคนรอบๆ ตัวมากกว่า
I think it is a mix of things, but mostly it comes from my own experiences. Honestly, I do not read a lot of books. I learn more from real life and the people I meet. Sometimes I see someone and just think they are really cool — the way they think, the way they carry themselves. I guess it mostly comes from observing and talking with people around me.
If we take away the labels of watch-dealer or restaurant partner, how would you define who you are?
เหมือนคำถามนี้มันเอาไว้ให้คนอื่นพูดถึงเรามากกว่านะ (ยิ้ม) ไม่รู้ว่าตัวเองตอบแล้วจะดีรึเปล่า แต่คิดว่าถ้าตัดทุกอย่างออกไปผมคงเป็นคนธรรมดาคนนึงที่ทำทุกอย่างที่อยากทำ ไม่เจออะไรที่ไม่อยากเจอ ผมคงจะใช้ชีวิตเรียบง่าย ทุกวันนีสิ่งที่ผมต้องการมันต้องใช้แค่เวลากับประสบการณ์ บางอย่างไม่ได้ใช้เงินซื้อมาได้ ผมคงเก็บประสบการณ์ไปเรื่อยๆ ใช้ชีวิตเรียบๆ ง่ายๆ ผมอยากมีเงินเยอะๆ แต่ไม่ต้องมีใครมารู้จักผมสนใจมากมายและได้ทำอะไรที่อยากทำ
This feels like the kind of question that is better for someone else to answer about me. I am not sure if I can give a good answer myself, but if I strip everything down, I think I am just a regular person who wants to do the things I enjoy and avoid the things I do not. I would probably live a simple life. These days, what I want mostly comes from time and experience. Not everything can be bought with money. I just want to keep collecting experiences and live simply. I still want to have a lot of money without needing to be known or noticed by many people and still be able to do the things I love.
